Just now, you asked the question: Why should we Meditate?

First of all, we need to pay attention to this very word, “Dhyan.” Because the purpose, the meaning of Dhyan, is to walk carefully, to move ahead carefully, to take care of ourselves — just like when we do some work.

Whenever we do some work, we say, “Do it with dhyan (care),” meaning, “Be careful that nothing falls.”

So, the purpose of Dhyan is: not to let ourselves fall, but to hold ourselves with care.

Because we human beings, all of us, want peace, want calmness, want happiness. And we want such happiness that not only gives us joy in this world, but also makes us honored in front of Sahib, so that we may be able to stand with our head held high there as well.

That is why the meaning of Dhyan is that, first of all, whatever we have faith in, belief in, trust in, or whoever we know to be higher and better — we sit and imagine that One, we do His Dhyan.

So, Dhyan is important, because there is power in Dhyan.

Because the human being, whatever he meditates upon, that is what he himself becomes.

For example:

If, while sitting, we remember some Saint, some Mahatma, or some good person — the very moment their memory comes, thoughts arise in us that we should do some goodness, do some kindness, behave well with others, improve our lives. Many good thoughts immediately begin to arise.

But if suddenly we remember some wrong person, then instantly thoughts will come — to do wrong to someone, to cheat someone, to deceive someone. Wrong thoughts will start arising at once.

So, when we remember a good person, we ourselves become good. And suddenly, when we remember a wrong person, we ourselves become wrong.

Now, when with love, with affection, with calmness, we meditate upon that True Sai, that God, that Lord, that True Satguru — then how much transformation will come into our lives!

Because Dhyan, first of all, makes our thinking, our thoughts, our imagination higher and better. And as our thoughts rise higher, as better thoughts come, we begin to receive peace and calmness.

Then, from within us, all the negative thoughts, all the wrong thoughts, start leaving. Our thoughts become pure. And the better our thoughts become, it is very simple — the more peace and calmness we will feel within. Our inside will become pure, and as soon as our inside becomes pure, our consciousness, our soul, our very spirit will become purified. And we will, step by step, enter into deep peace, calmness, and stability.

No wrong thoughts will remain in us. And slowly, slowly, while receiving peace and calmness, we will take our lives forward in a better way.

Therefore, the purpose of Dhyan is: to hold ourselves, to keep ourselves held with care, to finish all negative thoughts within us, and to become positive, moving ahead in a better way.

And then to become so positive, that even positivity itself dissolves, and we come into peace and calmness. Meaning, our thoughts rise so high that slowly, slowly, all good and bad, all karmas of our life — we offer them to the Lord, to the Satguru. While quieting ourselves, we reach the heights.

This is Dhyan, this is holding ourselves, and this is moving ahead.
