On the invitation of the people and the Panchayat of the city, Sant Satramdas Saheb made a visit to the city of Mithi.
After delivering his divine satsang, Saijan retired to his room to rest, and some devotees were assigned to keep watch outside the room to prevent any disturbances. As these devotees discussed the enlightening teachings of Sant Satramdas Sahib and basked in the divine bliss of their conversation, they suddenly witnessed a poisonous snake slithering into the room through a window. The devotees were seized with fear and felt helpless as the snake entered the room of Shehensha Sai Satramdas Sahib before they could take any action.
The devotees were aware that Sant Satramdas Sahib was alone in the room, and with no other options available, they peered through the window. They were astounded to see that Sant Satramdas Sahib was not resting but in a state of deep meditation. The snake, after slithering around Sant Satramdas Sahib’s bed, had quietly settled down beside it.
When Sant Satramdas Sahib opened his eyes, he smiled at the snake. The devotees, who had entered the room, attempted to capture the snake, but it remained motionless, refusing to move from its spot. Shehenshah Satguru Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib advised the devotees not to harm the creature, but they expressed their concerns about the snake’s venomous nature.
Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib explained that the snake had become a realized soul and achieved inner peace and calmness through the eternal joy and divine bliss it had experienced in his presence during meditation. As a result, the snake had become non-violent and peaceful, and Sant Satramdas Sahib urged the devotees to let the creature remain undisturbed.
The people of Mithi were intrigued by Sant Satramdas Sahib’s words and requested him to expound on the power of inner peace and calmness. In response, Sant Satramdas Sahib shared an inspiring story. He recounted an incident where a group of sadhus were on a pilgrimage and took rest under a tree in a village where no one knew them. As it was scorching hot, they planned to rest until evening.
As the sadhus rested, a kind lady who passed by invited them to rest in her home. Sant Satramdas Sahib went on to narrate the rest of the story, captivating the audience with his inspiring words.
The Sadhus gladly accepted the lady’s invitation and went to her house. She served them food and lassi, and the Sadhus rested for a while before leaving her house. After the Sadhus departed, the lady found a dead poisonous lizard in the container of lassi. She was deeply disturbed by the sight and did not know what to do, as the Sadhus had already left.
After the sadhus left her house, the lady was consumed with guilt and worried that the sadhus might get sick or die because of the poisonous lizard. Every day she prayed to God for their well-being.
On the return journey, the sadhus once again stopped at the lady’s house. She was surprised and happy to see all the sadhus in good health. She repeatedly asked them about their health and if they were feeling good during their journey. The sadhus assured her that they were fine. However, one of the sadhus noticed that the lady was particularly concerned about their health and asked her why she kept repeating the question. The lady then shared the story of the dead lizard in the lassi and her guilt and worry about their well-being.
The moment Sadhus learnt about the poisness lassi their inner peace was disturbed, worry and anxiety overpowered their inner peace, and fear and worry started spreading within their nerves. This caused them to feel uneasy and suffer in pain.
The sadhus were able to maintain their inner peace even though they had consumed the poisonous lizard, which did not harm them as long as they were in a state of peace. This was possible because their minds were focused on positive thoughts and feelings, and they did not allow fear or anxiety to take hold. Therefore, Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib emphasized the importance of inner peace and calmness in maintaining good health and well-being, and encouraged people to cultivate this state of mind in their daily lives.
Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib taught that peace and calmness are powerful enough to eradicate even the harmful effects of poison and prevent sorrow from attacking a person who is at peace within themselves. He said that the snake that had entered his room while he was meditating, and through the divine bliss and peace of that moment, the snake became calm and peaceful. Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib believed that with the grace of the Lord, the snake would soon attain moksha.
The people of Mithi were moved by this incidence and requested Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib to bless them with Naam daan, so that they too could attain inner peace and true happiness. As Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib departed from Mithi, the snake accompanied him to Raharki Sahib and lived there. During Satsangs, the snake would sit with the other devotees and listen to the beautiful teachings. After the Satsang, the snake would return to the place where Saijan had allowed it to live.
The devotees at Raharki Saheb took care of the snake, and it lived out the rest of its life in peace and calmness, ultimately attaining moksha. Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib’s story of the transformed snake and of the yogis who lost their inner peace, serves as a reminder of the power of inner peace and calmness to bring about positive change and transformation in all beings.
